It served the Ellwood City district until dwindling attendance saw it closed in 1984. The Wayne Township Consolidated School became part of the Ellwood City Area School District beginning in July 1959. At that time the crowded school contained 355 total students. A major addition of four classrooms was completed in 1955. Due to overcrowding one additional room was added in 1941 and again in 1950. Hope, and Locust Ridge were closed for good. When it was opened the old one-room schools of Quarry, Mt. The five-room Wayne Township Consolidated School, built as part of the federal government’s Public Works Administration ( PWA) initiative, opened for classes for students in grades 1-8 in early September 1937.
